Introduction to Evidence-based Suicide Prevention Programs for Teachers

Participants will examine current trends and perspectives on youth suicide. The goal of this course is to familiarize teachers with steps to identify warning signs and the risk factors of self-injurious and suicidal youth, procedures for referral, working with school mental health professionals, and how to implement suicide prevention strategies in the classroom aligned with AB2246-Pupil Suicide Prevention Policy (including suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention). Participants will gain insight on how to identify and protect suicidal and self-injurious youths, how to proceed when at-risk youths have been identified, and how to work with school site crisis teams in suicide prevention.

Participants will gain insight on how to identify and protect suicidal and self-injurious youths, how to proceed when at-risk youths have been identified, and how to work with school site crisis teams in suicide prevention.

Participants will examine current trends and perspectives on youth suicide. The goal of this course is to familiarize school mental health professionals and nurses with steps to identify warning signs and risk factors of self-injurious and suicidal youth, their roles in a school site crisis team, how to work with teachers and administrators, and how to implement suicide prevention strategies in the schools aligned with AB2246-Pupil Suicide Prevention Policy (including suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention). Participants will gain insight on ways to identify and protect suicidal and self-injurious youths, how to proceed when at-risk youths have been identified, and how to work with school site crisis teams in suicide prevention.
